Hello everyone! My name is Kerry McCann and I am currently a freshman studying Forensic Science here at Penn State. On May 7th, I will be embarking on a "may-mester" trip like no other. I, along with 14 other Schreyer students, will be traveling to Tanzania and Kenya for three weeks where we will be staying at a different girls' school in each of these two countries. In Tanzania we will be staying at SEGA, a girls' school founded in 2007 by Polly Dolan. While in Kenya, we will be staying at Hekima Place, another girls school founded in 2005 by Kate Fletcher.
These two girls' schools have an overarching mission to provide a quality education to young girls in their respective countries in order to break the societal molds they were born into. Education is not a readily available or consistent thing for young girls in Africa yet receiving an education will be one of the most beneficial things these girls can experience. While at these two schools we will be providing whatever help is needed including, helping the girls with homework, helping to cook, taking care of the young children, helping in the library, and much more.
To learn more about what you can do, as a college student, to help these girls, please watch the following video!
